Photographing a stylist is one of my absolute favorite things to do and I'll tell you why. When a woman who lives and breathes visual storytelling walks into a session, there's a different kind of awareness in the room. She understands the power of a great image. She knows exactly how clothing communicates. She shows up fully, intentionally, and with purpose. That was Liz, from the very first frame.
I'm thrilled to take you behind the scenes of Liz's brand session here in Austin, share some of what made this session so unique, and talk through what it really means to invest in brand photography when your visual presence IS your business.
Meet Liz: Austin Stylist and Visual Brand Builder
Liz is an Austin-based stylist with an incredible eye for detail, a deep understanding of how clothing shapes identity, and a brand presence that needed imagery to match the caliber of work she puts out into the world. As a stylist, Liz's images don't just represent her business. They ARE her portfolio, her credibility, her first impression. Getting this right was everything.
She came into this session with intention. Wardrobe was planned and curated (naturally, she's a stylist!), she knew the story she wanted to tell, and she brought the kind of energy that makes a session feel effortless and electric at the same time.
The Studio Setting: Why It Was the Perfect Choice
We shot this session in a beautiful Austin studio controlled light, elevated environment, a space that let Liz's personality and wardrobe take center stage. For a stylist especially, the studio setting is powerful because it removes visual noise and lets the clothing and the woman wearing it do all the talking.
There's a reason editorial photographers use studio environments for their most impactful work. When the background is intentional and clean, every detail becomes part of the story. And Liz's details? Absolutely stunning.
Four Looks, Four Sides of Her Brand
We moved through four styled looks during our 90 minutes together, and each one revealed a different facet of who Liz is as a stylist and as a woman. This is one of the most important things I coach my clients on before we ever step into the studio: your wardrobe tells multiple stories, and your brand needs all of them.
For Liz, this was especially meaningful. As a stylist, her own wardrobe choices during a brand session send a message to potential clients about her taste, her range, and her confidence. Every look we captured became a piece of her portfolio in itself, showing that she doesn't just understand style for others, she lives it for herself.
This is something I think every entrepreneur can learn from, whether you're a stylist or not: how you show up in your brand imagery communicates volumes before you ever say a word. What do your images say about you right now?
The BTS Video: Content That Connects
We captured behind-the-scenes video throughout Liz's session, and I honestly think this might be some of my favorite BTS content I've ever created for a client. There's something magnetic about watching a stylist in her element the way she moves, the way she carries each look, the way she naturally commands a frame.
For Liz's brand, this BTS footage is gold. It's content that shows potential clients not just what she looks like, but how she operates confident, artistic, in command of her space. That's exactly what her dream clients need to see to say yes.
If you're in a visually driven industry styling, design, beauty, wellness, fitness, creative direction. BTS video is not optional. It's one of the highest-converting forms of content you can have in your library. It invites people in. And once they're in, they stay.
What Liz's Gallery Delivered
Liz's final gallery is absolutely gorgeous and it works hard for her brand. Polished, editorial headshots she can use on her website and press materials. Lifestyle images that show her in her creative element. Wardrobe-forward looks that serve as visual proof of her styling philosophy. And intimate moments that let her audience see the real woman behind the brand.
This is what brand photography does when it's done with intention. It doesn't just capture how you look, it captures who you are and what you stand for. For a stylist like Liz, that distinction makes all the difference.
What Stylists (and All Creative Entrepreneurs) Should Know About Brand Photography
Here's the thing I want every creative entrepreneur reading this to understand: when your brand is built on visual trust, you cannot afford to rely on outdated images, inconsistent content, or photos that were taken on someone's phone in a parking lot. I say that with love because I've seen incredible businesses stay invisible simply because their imagery didn't match the quality of their work.
Your images are your handshake. Your first impression. Your proof of expertise before a single conversation happens. If the people you most want to work with are finding you online, they're making a judgment in seconds based on what they see. Brand photography gives you the power to control that narrative.
Liz understood this deeply. And her gallery reflects that understanding in every single frame.
