A Photographers Love Letter to Barton Springs Nursery: Austins native plant oasis. If you’re looking for plant inspiration in Austin, Barton Springs Nursery is a must-visit. Tucked away off Bee Caves Road, this lush plant haven is filled with native Texas plants, tropical houseplants, and rows of beautiful pottery. It’s equal parts nursery, greenhouse, and community space. The kind of place where every corner feels alive with possibility!

As a photographer, I was drawn to the way light pours through their greenhouse, the textures of succulents glowing in the sun, and the curated displays of pottery and garden goods. It’s not just a plant shop, it’s a space where you can slow down, soak up the greenery, and spark fresh ideas for your home or garden.
Whether you’re on the hunt for your next houseplant, dreaming up a new outdoor design, or just love exploring beautiful spaces, Barton Springs Nursery is one of Austin’s true gems.

A Bit of History & What Makes Barton Springs Nursery Unique
“A wonderland of native plants, herbs, veggies, houseplants, and so much more.” - Barton Springs Nursery
Over four acres, they cultivate plants that are well-adapted to Texas’s climate, emphasizing native and adapted species.
One of the things I love: their commitment to local growing. They don’t just import exotic plants, many of their species are propagated or selected for success in Travis County’s soil and weather. Over time, ownership has changed, but the mission remains rooted in supporting Austin’s plant ecology and community.
Behind the name “Barton Springs” there’s also a resonance with Austin’s natural springs, creek systems, and water heritage, which makes the nursery feel especially connected to the local landscape.
