You've finally decided to invest in brand photography. You know you need fresh, authentic images that actually represent who you are and what your business stands for. But now you're wondering: How do I prepare? What do I wear? What if I look awkward?

I've worked with hundreds of women entrepreneurs over the past 8 years, and I hear these questions before every single session. So I'm sharing everything I wish every client knew before stepping in front of my camera.

Why Preparation Matters

Here's the truth: the magic of brand photography doesn't just happen on shoot day. The preparation is what transforms good photos into extraordinary ones that attract your ideal clients and grow your business.

When you show up prepared—with the right outfits, the right mindset, and a clear vision—you'll feel confident instead of nervous. And that confidence? It shows in every single image.

Your Preparation Timeline

4-6 Weeks Before: Book & Start Planning

This is when you schedule your brand strategy call, create your Pinterest inspiration board, and start thinking about your brand message. What story do you want your images to tell?

2-3 Weeks Before: Wardrobe & Locations

Finalize your outfit selections, schedule any alterations, and confirm your locations. If you're interested in professional hair and makeup, book those services now.

1 Week Before: Beauty Prep Begins

Start drinking extra water (at least 80 ounces daily—especially important in Austin's climate), prioritize sleep, and begin your skincare routine. Avoid trying any new products or treatments.

1-2 Days Before: Final Touches

Get your manicure, steam or press all your clothing, and get a good night's sleep. This is also when you should try on all your complete outfits with accessories to make sure everything fits and feels right.

Session Day: Show Up & Be Present

Trust the process, bring positive energy, and let your authentic self shine through. This is your moment.

Building Your Brand Photo Wardrobe

Plan for 3-5 outfit changes to maximize variety and create a diverse gallery you can use across all your marketing platforms.

1. The Power Outfit

Your most polished, professional look. Think: blazer, tailored dress, or elevated separates. This is for LinkedIn, speaker bios, and formal marketing materials.

2. The Approachable Look

Casual yet intentional. Sweater, elevated denim, flowy blouse. Ideal for Instagram, blog posts, and connecting authentically with your audience.

3. The Statement Piece

Something that shows your unique personality—a bold color, interesting texture, or piece that feels distinctly YOU. Great for standing out on social media.

4. The Working Outfit

Comfortable clothing you can move in naturally. For photos of you in action, at your laptop, or demonstrating your expertise.

5. The Wild Card (Optional)

Something completely different that reveals another dimension of your brand or personal style.
