Krause Springs: My Secret Muse in the Texas Hill Country

There’s a place I return to again and again, not just with my camera, but with my whole heart!!
About 30 miles west of Austin, tucked in the folds of the Hill Country in Spicewood, Texas, lies a piece of land that feels like it belongs to another realm. Krause Springs has become one of my most treasured locations both for my personal nature photography and for the branding and lifestyle clients I’m lucky enough to bring there.
It’s hard to put the magic of Krause into words. With 32 natural springs trickling through limestone rock and ancient cypress trees, it’s a haven of lush greenery, cool swimming holes, and gentle soundscapes — wind chimes, water, and the occasional splash of joy. It’s no surprise this 115-acre property is listed on the National Registry of Historical Sites. And yet, it still feels like a well-kept secret.
Over the last eight years, I’ve wandered its shaded trails, found unexpected light dancing across mossy stones, and captured the quiet poetry of Texas nature in bloom. Some of those moments now live on as fine art prints — available through my print shop, for those who want to bring a piece of the Hill Country into their home.
But Krause isn’t just a retreat for me, it’s also one of my favorite locations to shoot with clients who crave something more grounded, more wild, more soulful. Recently, I brought a client here for a brand shoot that felt less like a photoshoot and more like a return to self. We played in the water, walked barefoot through the gardens, and let the space guide the shoot. The images? Honest, radiant, and alive.
If you’re someone who feels most yourself out in nature wind in your hair, sunlight on your skin, surrounded by trees and water — this just might be the place for your next shoot. And if you simply want to experience it quietly, for yourself, bring a picnic, take a dip in the spring-fed pools, or just sit and listen to the butterflies.
That said… part of me hesitated to write this post at all. Krause Springs isn’t just a pretty location — it’s sacred. And while I love sharing it with those who are truly drawn to it, I also hope it stays just a little wild, just a little hidden.
If you’re ready to create something beautiful here — whether it’s for your brand, your soul, or both — reach out. Let’s make magic in the Hill Country.
With love,
Camille
